Prosthetic makeup
Film/TV makers use this effect to give the illusion of realness. In the image above it shows a man with prosthetic makeup that in the movie is caused by getting caught in a house fire. There would be around two or three people who would have to create this look which would take a few hours as they have to get the right moulds, colours, textures, and equipment for it to look real. Other aspects that will help with creating this effect will be the lighting on set, camera angles, and editing techniques. These three aspects will help with the illusion as they will give a better lighting for the camera angles that will show close ups, medium shots and maybe long shots. The editing will help with bringing the look alive by maybe adding boiling flesh, pulsing and more.
Scale model
The image above shows a scale model of Hogwarts which is used in the filming of Harry Potter. Scale models can help cut down the cost when filming as it doesn't cost half as much as a full scale building. Aspects of filming that help bring this illusion to life is the lighting which will help with setting the mood and showing life within the building. Other aspects are the camera angles, editing techniques, and visual effects which will make the model look realistic in the movie. They will editing in the background, weather conditions, lighting and people within the model.
Pyrotechnics
The effect that is being used in the image above is pyrotechnics which is the explosions that happen in movies. This effect has to be planned out so that it goes according to the schedule and has to have been health and safety checked. Film makers use this effect for realistic uses and dramatic effect. It's normally used on objects like cars, bridges, boats, bottles, buildings, and more. Aspects that help with this effect are locations, props, camera angles, sound, and visual effects. These all help with making the explosion look more realistic when filming.

What the effect: Green screen and prosthetics
Why it is needed and how it is supposed to make the audience feel:
It's needed to help make the footage look as realistic as it possibly can for the viewers. The green screen is for locations that we might not be able to get to or to add little aspects to that location. It is also for special effects for example, bullets when the guns are fired. The prosthetics are for making wounds and make up look life like for the camera. These two will hopefully make the audience feel like it's realistic and dramatic.
How the effect works:
The green screen will be propped up behind the actors and actresses. Once filmed and uploaded onto a computer the editor and visual effects person will then add the green screen effects. The make up will have to be applied before shooting the scene. What materials you need?
For the first effect we would need a green sheet/paper/ or a full screen that can lean or be propped up by something. The prosthetics material would be latex, paint, fake cloth, moulding wax, fake blood, and different types of everyday make up. Proposed costs:
Depending on the size of the movie and the scale of it the money can go either way. Also depending on the size of the green screen it can go from £60 to a few hundred/thousand. The make is a little cheaper as it can go from £40 to a few hundred. Camera and stage directions:
For both effects you don't need to do much with the camera or stage directions. This is because the green screen is already set up and will only be changed in the editing process and the make up is already done up for the illusion that it's actually real. Risks and how to make them safe.
The green screen needs to be pinned or safely set up so that it doesn't fall on the cast and crew. The prosthetics risks would be that we would have to ask if the actor/actress was allergic to any of the materials.
P3a - Storyboard and Animatic
Animatic Trailer for The Last One's Standing
This is a mock up trailer using story boards for our soon to be teaser trailer for 'The Last One's Standing' a movie about a small group of humans trying to stay alive during a zombie take over.
The strengths of the animatic would be that we can clearly see when each clip cuts away in time with the soundtrack. The animatic is also good because we have a good idea about what the soundtrack is going to sound like which gives us a feel of the genre of the trailer and also how tense / exciting the movie would be.
The weaknesses of the animatic would be that we haven't made this trailer the length of the actual trailer which could be a bit misleading. We need to ensure that we extend each of our clips in order to make the trailer a good length.
When we film the actual trailer we will ensure that the clips are of a good length and that they fit in with the theme of the movie. We will also make sure that we use a variety of different camera shots and angles to make the trailer look more dynamic and exciting.

P3 B-C / Plans
Special effects plans
Smoke bomb
It would bring suspense and drama to that clip of the trailer. The shot would be of legs running through the smoke and off the shot. The camera would be only aimed at the lower leg which will show mystery for the viewer as they wouldn't know who the legs belonged to.
Ketchup Bomb
We might use this special effect to create shock and drama to the trailer. We would use a polystyrene head wearing a wig. The shot would be of the back/side of the head before it would be blown up with ketchup coming out acting as the blood .
Coke and mentos bomb
This is going to be used just for a shot of an explosion. It could be shot from different angles for different parts of the trailer.
Below are what ingredients we would need to make a reaction.
Below will be the make up special effect.
P3 D-F
Locations
The image below is of Long Road Sixth Form College. We filmed a big amount of the footage there as it has a wooded area at the back of the colleges football field. The green area with all the bushes is where we filmed.
The image below is of a team members property. We used the garden (green area) to film running scenes.
P3 G / Green Light Form
Green Light Form
Which classification you are going to try to meet?
We are trying to meet an 12A. This is due to the fake guns and the fake make up which would not be suitable for anyone under the age of 12. If a child under the age of 12 wants to see this film then a adult would have to come along with them.
P3 i-j / Health and safety
Health and safety issues for the grip which was partly my job was including potential
injury if I were to trip over any of the equipment; therefore we will have to
ensure that the equipment is securely put away and out of danger of all of the crew members.
On the BECTU health and safety cards it says for the camera & grips to be cautious of electricity when filming outside as the weather can suddenly change from dry to wet which can cause issues of broken/water damaged equipment, electric shocks, slipping on wet ground with equipment, etc. Another issue that is on the cards is the working time and stress that is loaded onto these roles. There has to be schedules where they can take breaks from carrying the camera, and just general breaks from working the long hours day after day.
P4 / Three videos
Special effects: Snow walking
Miniture (Tractor)
Knife throw
SWOT:
Strengths-
The strengths of each video was the planning that went into each one before the actual footage was shot. We got to have fun with what ideas we could add to the orginal template which was good.
Weaknesses-
As these videos were filmed when we didn't know much about how to edit or how to film properly they aren't the best as there are bad effects, for example the green screen on the snow video where you can still see the outline of the sheet as it wasn't properly set up and in the other two videos there are shaky camera shots throughout.
Opportunities-
The opportunities of filming these videos were that we got to use equipment that we have never used before so we got to experiment with different techniques and learn new ways of filming and editing.
Threats-
The threats could be that in the last video, the knife throw could be deemed as dangerous as it could potentially harm one of the team members when first thrown in the first shot as the knife goes off the frame.
P5 / Editing process
The editing process:
Below is of the footage that we shot for The Last Ones Standing being put into order and being edited.
The images below are of the premier timeline where you drag the raw footage that you have filmed to be edited and cut down until you are happy with it. The blue section is the footage and the audio that goes along with it. The green section below it is of the music and sound effects that are layered within the audio/clips.
