Poster analyse:
The poster for the film 71 is a large usage of dark colours with a lot of action going on with the imagery and text. The main image on the poster is of the main character, Gary Hook (Jack O'Connell). This helps draw in the viewers as the main character is best known to the younger age. The darker colours of the green, blue and black match with the colour scheme of the movie which sets the darker atmosphere. It gives a general feeling of what the movie is mainly about which is war but it doesn't exactly tell you anything about the back stories or the characters. The background imagery shows a upsetting scene from the actual movie. Again this tells you what is expected to be seen in the movie. It sets the feelings straight away.
The layout of the text is very crowded which over works the poster as there is too much going on in just one space. They've made the main focus of the text to be the reviews which are set out around Jack O'Connell's character then have put the actual movie title in smaller font and different colour underneath the reviews. The colour of the title is much lighter and blends in with the background so it doesn't seem to catch your eye.
Trailer analyse:
The trailer for the movie 71 is pretty different to the poster as it shows the back stories included in the movie. The trailer goes straight into the storyline and side stories like the main character and his brother. It has quick snips of the action scenes to keep the audience interested and wanting to see more. It's very fast moving and has voice clips from scenes layered over other scenes to give different emotions to the viewer. The colours aren't very bright or shouting happiness at all and it gives a sense of darkness or intensity to the film.
